Sensitivity 101

Yesterday we went to church and when we went to pick up the kids, Amelia had gotten a dum dum sucker - she was thrilled!  She showed me proudly with a big grin on her face.   Isabelle though was....devastated.  She started loosing it as soon as she was picked up and any consoling daddy did, just escalated those ear piercing cries. "I want a sucker tooooo."   What do you say to a 2 year old who doesn't understand that life isn't fair and sometimes one person gets something and another doesn't?!  Well, words really didn't matter because nothing could be said to calm her down and we didn't have a dum dum (which with that behavior she probably shouldn't have gotten one anyway), but you still feel a little bad for her.
Walking out of church.....wailing
Walking to the van......wailing
Buckling in......wailing
Pulling out of the parking lot.....scream, scream, wail
Driving down the road......wailing
As we get about half way home Isabelle calms down just enough for us to hear Amelia say, "Isabelle, next time I will try and get 2 suckers so that you can have one too."   I peeked back to look at Amelia and her face was so sad.  About a minute later Amelia says to us, "Guys, next time I will get 2 suckers so Isabelle can have one.  This time I just forgot.  Next time you have to help me remember!"
Amelia, sweet girl, you have such a sensitive heart!
